Today we are going to be talking about what are referring domains vs backlinks. what is better, what is the difference, and who will win? So first off let's get the definitions out there for anyone who doesn't know where may not be hundred percent clear on so,

Referring Domains VS Backlinks | what are referring domains

What are Referring domains

Referring domains meaning:-

These are the number of domains that are linked to a single website. So, you have these are completely different domains different sites linking out to one single site.

Backlinks

Backlinks are the number of total links, a website has pointed to it.

Referring Domains VS Backlinks

The difference between backlinks and referring domains are as under:-

So what's better well they're both good in their own ways. It's unnatural to have 100 backlinks from a hundred different referring domains but it's also unnatural to have 100 thousand backlinks from one referring domain. So again the difference is that referring them and you can only have one domain. Backlinks you could have one referring domain link from a hundred different pages or even from the same page for that matter but usually, you'll see it from different pages that would be backlinks. So one referring domain but a hundred backlinks.

A lot of people back in the days, I'm talking like five-plus years ago. Before I was even doing SEO. I heard about this what learning is that a lot of people used to utilize a ton of backlinks from different websites. But Google caught on to that because they were powering up their sites right by getting 100 backlinks from one site.  On the other hand, having to take the time and effort to go and find a hundred different sites or use a hundred different PBNs to get their backlinks from.

So they kind of utilize that and it works for a little bit not sure exactly how long this is a while back like, I said but Google cut on to that eventually and they devalued the importance of multiple backlinks. So that's why from PBNs for example when we build out PBNs we're only linking to a money site once or maybe like twice from one post. Because if you link outs like the home page and inner page but not like you're not making multiple articles linking out to a bunch of different links to your money site.

More likely so you definitely can do that and I wouldn't really I wouldn't go say you shouldn't do that. I mean it's it is natural for sites to link to sites multiple times. So definitely that's it's doable you can definitely do that but the benefits are its diminishing returns. So you link out to a site it's the backlink and has a hundred percent juice you link out to it, again it's hard to say I haven't done too much testing on it but it's not it's definitely not a harbor send there and then if you do that with all your PBNs that can be a footprint as well.

So definitely it's not really worth the time to go and get another article and put it up there and you know all that just for the sake of linking to that money site multiple times. So again the backlinks are not as great as just different referring domains. If I had a hundred different backlinks from five domains 20 backlinks for each referring domain so 5 referring domains a hundred backlinks. I would rather have 50 or referring domains and 50 backlinks.

So just each referring domain just linking me once I'd rather have that because that's a lot more powerful. Hopefully, that point got across to you, and then utilize them to your benefit. You can put a footer link on a client site that's linking to your site so you have the footer link. Like designed by will use my agency. That can be utilized for the anchor text that can also be utilized to get you more clients. I mean the footer link is a site-wide link usually I mean you can have it. Footer link just for the home page can be done and you could have a do-follow link. It is the best practice for google less chance of your site getting penalized.
